Well we made it! The inaugural meeting of Newton Area Flyers! This was the first function of the club which was awarded it's certificate of recognition by Aero Sports Connection as club # 93. The weather was a little windy for any flying but the sun was out most of the time with the few raindrops not making much difference to those enjoying the chance to get to know everyone. There were a couple of powered parachutes and three trikes set up for everyone to look at during the afternoon.
There was plenty of food and Jim did a wonderful job of cooking all afternoon. We also managed to invite almost all the wives and family as well so everyone was able to get to know each other. It was great to see hanger buddies meeting families of people they had known at the airstrip for a few years. The relaxed atmosphere allowed for a varied afternoon of flying related topics including sports pilot development and aircraft inspections. During the afternoon Jim Austin was presented with a Tee shirt put together by Tim designating him as the initial President of the club.
The ethos of the club is to promote safe Ultralight flying for all those interested, to help those that have an interest in our sport better understand the responsibilities of aviation. We are committed to developing continued good relations with the General Aviation community. We would Like to thank Stella Jump who owns the airport for all her support in allowing the fun to take place (and for the pie which was awesome!). Jim for the grill and chef duties, soda and Tim for the site set up, signs, tee shirt, grass cutting and for taking on VP duties. Don Daley for supplying the hot dogs and burgers, Big Rich for the rolls, Stephen for the cookies and cake. I am sure I will update all the others that helped. It was good to have a shelter which was fun and to have some ground training:
I think I said ground training, well this is Trike Flying 101, now remember that when you push forward you go up and pull back you go down! Our President giving a basic flight lesson or is this what he does at home on wet days?
We will be hosting a fly in in the late summer so keep an eye out for details: To all of you that attended 10 pilots and 20+ friends and family thanks it was a great day! |
